Standard cars and tourist coaches follow the main roads between Sintra and Cascais — the EN247 coastal road through Guincho. A Land Rover Defender changes the route available.
The backroad sections between Guincho Beach and Adraga Beach run through the interior of the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park on unpaved granite and stone tracks that standard vehicles cannot legally or mechanically enter. The forest track to Peninha at 488 m, the Ulgueira backroads west of Cabo da Roca, and the cliff approach to Buraco do Fojo sea cave are exclusive to this vehicle. These three sections account for approximately 30–40% of the total route.
For travellers looking for a jeep tour in Lisbon or a 4×4 safari in Portugal, the practical difference is in what you actually see: the park ridge-line above both the Atlantic and the Tagus estuary simultaneously, a Romantic palace ruin at 488 m accessible only via forest track, a Jurassic limestone sea cave reachable only by 4×4 or a 1.2 km coastal walk. None of these appear on any standard Sintra car tour route.
Private format: the Land Rover and guide are exclusively for your group for the full 8 hours. No shared vehicles, no strangers, no fixed stops at inconvenient times. Among 4×4 tours in Portugal, this is the only private daily route from Lisbon with hotel pickup, running every day subject to availability. Maximum 6 passengers — smaller than a standard tour van, which means the guide adapts the day to your pace.
The Sintra-Cascais Natural Park covers approximately 145 km² (established 1981, formal Natural Park designation 1994). Most visitors reach 5–10% of it: the palace zone in Sintra town, Cabo da Roca, and Guincho. The 4×4 route reaches the rest.

Yes. The itinerary includes off-road sections through Sintra-Cascais Natural Park - unpaved trails, forest paths and coastal backroads. We assess conditions on the day and adapt the route if safety requires it. The standard coastal drive (Guincho, Cabo da Roca, Azenhas do Mar) runs on tarmac regardless of conditions. Maximum 6 passengers per vehicle. The 4x4 tour is exclusively private - you will not share the vehicle with other travellers. Standard private tours use a van and follow main roads into Sintra town, typically visiting Pena Palace and Quinta da Regaleira. The 4x4 tour uses a Land Rover Defender, prioritises the natural park, cliffs and coastal tracks, and focuses on photography stops and landscapes rather than palace interiors. Entrance fees for Pena Palace are not part of the 4x4 itinerary by default. The price covers the full day with driver-guide (8 hours), private use of the Land Rover Defender, hotel pickup and drop-off in central Lisbon, fuel, tolls, parking and mandatory insurance. Prices are per vehicle: €330 (1-2 passengers), €370 (3- passengers), €490 (5-6 passengers). Meals, drinks, monument entrance tickets and tips are not included. Optional wine and tapas add-ons (€35-€85 per person) are available but must be requested at the time of booking. Yes. Three wine add-on options are available: a local wine shop tasting (+€35/person), a cellar visit with tasting and tapas (+€55/person), or a cellar visit with tasting, tapas and Port wine (+€85/person). Book the add-on in advance - availability is not guaranteed on the day. Standard pickup is between 08:30 and 09:00 from your accommodation in central Lisbon. The tour lasts approximately 8 hours, returning to Lisbon in the late afternoon (around 17:30). Other departure times can be arranged on request. The standard route covers the Estoril Coast, Cascais bay, Guincho Beach, Peninha viewpoint inside Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, Cabo da Roca (westernmost point of continental Europe, 140 m above sea level), Ulgueira backroads, Buraco do Fojo viewpoint, Adraga Beach and Azenhas do Mar. The route can be adjusted based on your preferences and conditions. Yes. This is a private, exclusive tour. We can adjust the route, add or remove stops, and allocate more time to photography locations of your choice. Let us know your priorities at the time of booking. Yes. Children are welcome. Child seats are available on request at no extra cost - provide the child's age and weight when booking. Children count toward the 6-passenger maximum. Note that off-road sections involve light vibration; if travelling with infants, confirm suitability with us in advance. The Land Rover Defender has a higher step-up than a standard van. If a passenger has significant mobility limitations, please inform us at the time of booking so we can advise on what is feasible and adapt the stops accordingly. Comfortable walking shoes suitable for uneven terrain, a light jacket (the natural park can be cooler than Lisbon by 4–6°C), sunscreen, a camera and water. Lunch is not included - we allocate time at a local restaurant mid-day. Yes, year-round. The Sintra-Cascais Natural Park is green and accessible throughout winter. Rain can affect off-road sections; we adapt the route if conditions require it. Visibility at Cabo da Roca and Peninha is often cleaner in autumn and winter than in summer. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before your scheduled pickup time. Cancellations within 24 hours are non-refundable. Book via the tour page form, WhatsApp +351 965 856 169, or email [email protected]. Specify the number of passengers, preferred date, pickup address, and any add-ons or itinerary preferences. We confirm availability within a few hours. Sintra-Cascais Natural Park covers 14,583 hectares on the Sintra and Cascais coast west of Lisbon. It encompasses Sintra town (UNESCO World Heritage since 1995), Cabo da Roca lighthouse and cliffs, Guincho Beach and the Serra de Sintra mountain range reaching 528 m at Cruz Alta. The park's Atlantic microclimate produces dense vegetation and mist that creates conditions distinctly different from central Lisbon.
