Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo, located in Covas do Douro, Sabrosa, has been named Global Winner for Portugal in the “Best of Wine Tourism Awards 2025”, granted by the Great Wine Capitals Network.
This recognition further strengthens Quinta Nova’s position as an international reference in wine tourism. The Portuguese estate also received the regional award in the category of “Wine Tourism Services”.
“In 2005, we started an ambitious project in the Douro Valley by opening the first wine hotel in Portugal. At the time, the offer was almost nonexistent, and we could count the days until tourists arrived. Almost two decades later, we can proudly say that we are part of an internationally recognized destination,” says Luísa Amorim, CEO of Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo. She adds, “It is a privilege to be part of the Global Wine Tourism Awards with Great Wine Capitals and to be recognized in such a special way (…) We will continue to offer new experiences in the future, training more professionals in the Douro Demarcated Region so that, together with our peers, we can create an exclusive and memorable offer.”
In 2023, Quinta Nova renewed its wine tourism experience through the renovation of its iconic winery and the creation of the Winery Lounge, one of the most exclusive spaces in the Douro. The estate also includes the Quinta Nova Winery House, a charming 19th-century property with 11 rooms, proudly part of Relais & Châteaux. Another highlight is Terraçu’s Restaurant, known for its carefully selected recipes and commitment to the slow food philosophy.
Founded in 1999, the Great Wine Capitals Network is made up of 12 member cities whose wine regions are internationally recognized — including Porto (Portugal), Adelaide (Australia), Bilbao (Spain), and Bordeaux (France).
