After pick-up in Lisbon at your accommodation, we begin our journey directly to Fátima. On the way, enjoy the peaceful landscapes of Ribatejo, with its vast plains, green fields, and fertile agricultural zones like the Lezíria.

Fátima

We begin our visit in Fátima, one of the most important Catholic pilgrimage destinations. It was here, in 1917, that Our Lady appeared to the three shepherd children—Lúcia, Francisco, and Jacinta. Since then, millions of visitors have come to this sacred site, including Pope Francis in 2017.

At the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fátima, you can visit:

The Basilica of the Holy Trinity, one of the largest modern Catholic churches in the world

You’ll also have time to attend Mass, light a candle, or simply reflect. Don’t miss the fragment of the Berlin Wall, donated by a Portuguese emigrant—a powerful symbol of peace.

Batalha

Next, we travel to Batalha, where you’ll visit the stunning Monastery of Batalha, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983.

Commissioned by King João I to honor the Virgin Mary after the victory at the Battle of Aljubarrota, the monastery is a masterpiece of Gothic architecture mixed with the Manueline style. It took more than 200 years to build and remains one of Portugal’s greatest architectural achievements.

Nazaré

We continue to the seaside town of Nazaré, famous for its fishing heritage and awe-inspiring cliffs. Here, the old traditions live on—local women often wear their colorful seven-skirt outfits, especially during festivals.

More recently, Nazaré has gained global fame for its record-breaking waves. In 2011, surfer Garrett McNamara rode a wave measuring 23.77 meters, and in 2020, Sebastian Steudtner broke that record with a 28.57-meter wave.

The viewpoint at Forte de São Miguel Arcanjo is a must-see for surf fans and photographers alike.

Óbidos

Our final stop is the storybook village of Óbidos, enclosed within the walls of a medieval castle. On the way, we pass the peaceful coastal villages of São Martinho do Porto and Foz do Arelho, both known for their natural beauty.

In Óbidos, you can stroll its cobbled streets, browse artisan shops, and sample the famous Ginjinha de Óbidos—a cherry liqueur traditionally served in a chocolate cup.

Recognized as a UNESCO City of Literature since 2015, Óbidos is rich in charm, history, and romance.

Regresso a Lisboa

After a day filled with faith, history, and breathtaking scenery, we return to Lisbon and drop you off at your accommodation. You’ll leave with lasting memories and a deeper appreciation for Portugal’s cultural and spiritual heritage.

We travelled by van with Pedro T as our guide. He was very knowledgeable about each place we visited, was courteous, well spoken and a pleasure to interact with. He was an excellent driver who was punctual and did a great job of introducing us to each location and directing us to the best approaches. We were a group of three women from Canada and thoroughly enjoyed our tour.
